Building Blocks The Building Blocks Business Unit focuses on high-quality synthetic intermediates. Its activities are based on the continual development and refinement of a broad range of products, using its technological expertise, back integration of most essential raw materials, and above all its market knowledge. With almost 2,600 employees, the Building Blocks Business Unit generated sales of about € 714 million in 2005 and now maintains production facilities at 14 sites in Europe and the NAFTA region. Since January 1, 2006, the Business Unit also produces and markets hydrogen peroxide to pulp, textile and chemical manufacturers within the Active Oxygen business line. Furthermore Active Oxygen produces peracetic acid for disinfection, sterilization and chemical synthesis, as well as TMT® for the precipitation of heavy metals in waste water and flue gases.

Evonik Degussa Building Blocks produces and markets high quality synthetic intermediates, including alkoxides, alkyl chlorides, pyrimidines, cyanamide, dicyandiamide, cyanuric chloride, cyanoacetates, malonates, ortho esters, NCN derivatives, phenolic antioxidants, and triacetoneamine derivatives, as well as specialty building blocks. 

Application Fields

Applications include adhesives and sealants, paints and coatings, cosmetics, intermediates for agriculture and pharmaceuticals, textile specialties, as well as additives for polymers, plastics, fuels and lubricants.

Peracetic Acids
We are a basic manufacturer of peracetic acid (PAA). Peracetic acid is used as a microbiocidal agent in sanitization, disinfection and sterilisation applications and as a powerful oxidiser in chemical synthesis applications.

TMT 15
Treatment with TMT 15 is very different than other precipitating reagents used to remove heavy metals in effluents from a variety of sources including metal finishing, mining and municipal wastewater treatment. TMT 15 is highly effective in reducing soluble metals to low levels in scrubber or wastewater streams. Metals that can be precipitated include: mercury, copper, cadmium, silver, lead, nickel and tin.
